From Concept to Reality: Five Key Lessons from Leading Beyond Virtual Staffing

Early 2023 was when I ventured back into the start-up space and became the COO of Beyond Virtual Staffing, witnessing its rapid growth from an experimental concept to a fully operational business. This experience has taught me valuable lessons:

(1) Outsourcing isn’t for everyone: While accessing a global talent pool is advantageous, not every business is suited for outsourcing due to factors like lack of tech infrastructure or the sensitivity of the work.

(2) Matchmaking matters: Establishing successful owner-virtual staff relationships involves more than just competence—it requires chemistry. Building trust is crucial for remote work, and a positive start is essential for a productive partnership.

(3) No perfect recruitment process: Having been part of a recruitment firm, I’ve learned that there’s no one-size-fits-all hiring process. However, understanding the overall recruitment landscape allows us to create a more seamless system.

(4) Filipinos excel in diverse industries: Working at Virtual and Beyond has shown me that Filipinos possess talents beyond the healthcare and domestic helper sectors, challenging stereotypes.

(5) Endless possibilities: The pandemic has highlighted the potential for remote work in various industries. Virtual and Beyond is excited to assist businesses globally, even small enterprises, in adapting to these changing times.

From understanding the nuances of outsourcing to appreciating the unique talents of the Filipino workforce, each challenge and triumph has contributed to my growth as a leader and a colleague.
